Famed/Notorious for: Vagina
rants, impatience, the creation of a zillion websites, obsessive tendancies,
ferociousness, churning, unable to resist a mask of any kind, theatrical
and dramatic, intensely mecurial.
Australian by birth, red-head
by nature. Likes to bite things.
Lesbian in love with myself.
Quote: "My head is on backwards
but my heart is still spinning around. When my eyes exploded the stars fell
all around and laughed when the rainbows cried." Think about it. (Suitably
pretentious, eh? ;) )
If you Vagina could say two
words, what would they be? "Feed Me"
Why didn't you call yourself
Kali for the site? "Because I'm not Kali"
What does Glasya mean? "Most
beautiful, seductive evil. Check out the Book of Angels"

GENERAL STATEMENT
We here at Unmasking the
Gorgon do not represent the mindset of all women, or even all feminists.
We are products of the culture
we have been brought up in: mostly white, just middle-class, big city-bred.
We have been encouraged to be independant, open-minded individuals all
our lives. We were taught life is not a free-ride and that education is
something to value. We have learned to work hard for what we want and to
accept our responsibilities in life. We have also been taught to value
the diversity of culture and faiths the world has on offer. Both of us
have friends of varying cultures and belief systems. We like to find unity
in diversity. Although this website most determinedly reflects our views,
we hope noone will think we are trying to impose them on anyone.
Our take on feminism is not
everyone's take. It is a system of beliefs we developed based on our personal
experiences in love, relationships, workforce, education, religion, and
assault. As women, we have faced discrimination, oppression, or a conspiracy
of silence as anyone in our respective male-dominated countries has. This
is how we have personally chosen to fight back - by asserting our right
to speak about widespread taboos in our particular culture. By attempting
to educate ourselves and make clear our beliefs and not apologise for them.
By loving and respecting ourselves. By breaking the cycle of blame, which
doesn't get us anywhere, and working to make our own lives work for ourselves.
In doing this we like to get involved with our communities and talk and
exchange view points. We like to encourage other women to think for themselves
and to sit up and take action for themselves. We don't not sit on
our haunches complaining about the patriarchy; we acknowledge the effects
it has on society (in a complaining sort of way way!) - and there are women
who are involved with it as well - we seek to educate people about these
effects and then we seek to do something about them. We encourage self
love first and foremost, because through self love we will be better able
to make a stand for ourselves and forge better relationships with people
in general. We encourage responsibility for ourselves and consideration
of others.
We cannot claim to understand
the mindset of another culture, as they cannot claim to understand ours.
It varies for everyone. Women in Africa will have a different view of FGM
than we do. Women in Islam will have a different view of sex than we do.
Women in Italy will have a different view of marriage than we do. There
will be exceptions to the rule and you will find people from wildly different
cultures who find their thoughts reflected in our own, just as you will
find many western white women who disagree with us totally. We can speak
for noone but ourselves and merely encourage or suggest different ways/methods/practices
which we personally have found spiritually and psycholgically enriching.
We can merely offer essays and articles on our personal perception of issues.
This is a personal website so it reflects a very personal view, not an
all encompassing one. However, EVERY WOMAN who visits this site and has
a radically different view to us is encouraged to share it, just as those
who have similar are. We are not looking to get into hateful debates or
vicious exchange, we only want to encourage women to speak out about what
they believe in, as we believe this is a very important thing to do. By
exploring your faiths and beliefs, speaking about them and discussing them,
you can only learn more.
In summation: We do not wish
to speak for all women. We wish only to speak TO them.
